Precepting and Instructing

THANK YOU to our Community Preceptors who generously donate their time and experience to teach medical and nursing students.  Your work strengthens the health care workforce pipeline in Vermont!

Northern Vermont AHEC supports UVM College of Medicine community faculty in a variety of ways.

  • Community Preceptor Recognition Program – AHEC provides continuing education opportunities, training, community health improvement activities, and community faculty development programs. Preceptors may receive certificates from the UVM Office of Primary Care towards UVM College of Medicine or other CME courses.
  • Loan Repayment –  The Vermont Education Loan Repayment Program selection committee gives special consideration to practitioners who serve as community faculty.
  • Educational Resources – The Larner College of Medicine Community Faculty have access to the UVM network, over 5,000 health science journals (most available electronically), and authoritative and evidence-based databases and clinical resources including UpToDate, DynaMed, PubMed & OVID..
  • As Northern Vermont AHEC develops relationships with preceptors and instructors in the region, other areas of support may be explored.

 Other areas of support:

  • Support for Medical Students – AHEC coordinates housing and facilitates community connections for medical, nursing and social work students on rural clinical rotations.
