Our Mission

Our mission is to educate and inspire students and professionals to improve the health of Vermont communities.

We envision a time when every community in Vermont will have an adequate and well-trained health workforce, and every Vermonter will have access to high-quality, comprehensive care.

In the eight counties of Caledonia, Essex, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, Orange, Orleans and Washington, in collaboration with UVM and the statewide AHEC Network, Northern Vermont AHEC’s goals include:

  • Pre-professional student programs: provide health career exploration and preparation for students in grades K-12 and undergraduate pre-health students.
  • Recruitment and retention: support clinical education and community projects in underserved areas for health professions students and residents, administer education loan repayment for recruitment and retention of needed health professionals, and offer evidence-based input on health workforce supply and demand.
  • Quality improvement and continuing education: provide programs, information and other resources to health professionals, organizations and decision-makers to maintain and improve quality and support a well-trained workforce.
  • Organizational capacity: continue the ability of the organization to meet its mission, including administrative functions, fund development and the cultivation of strategic partnerships.
