Northern Vermont AHEC is hiring an Institute Health Director for the 2025 Governor’s Institute on Health & Medicine—a one-week, residential summer program that introduces high school students to health careers through immersive, hands-on learning.

Are you a Vermont RN ready for a role that’s equal parts clinical care, mentorship, and summer adventure? Northern Vermont AHEC is looking for a compassionate, organized, quick-on-their-feet nurse to serve as the Institute Health Director for the 2025 Governor’s Institute on Health & Medicine.

This weeklong, residential program brings together high school students from across the state to explore health careers. As Health Director, you’re the calm in the chaos, the trusted caregiver, and the health hub of the entire operation.

Location: Vermont State University – Lyndon Campus
Dates: Full on-site role from July 5–12, 2025 with 3 hours of remote work per week between June 16 and July 3, 2025
Compensation: $3,000 stipend + Free Meals & Housing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support student and staff wellness by assessing and responding to minor illnesses and injuries
  • Oversee daily medication management and maintain a clean, secure infirmary space
  • Supervise students who are unwell and coordinate care as needed
  • Ensure all health screenings and safety protocols are followed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all health-related encounters
  • Remain on-call for emergencies and activate the appropriate response protocols when 

You’ll also:

  • Protect and manage student and staff health records
  • Help lead a safe, inclusive program environment in collaboration with a passionate team
  • Participate in pre-program onboarding (up to 3 hours/week starting June 16) and attend staff training on July 5

What We’re Looking For:

  • Current Vermont RN license (required)
  • Experience working with youth or in residential settings (preferred)
  • Current CPR certification (preferred)
