Health Careers Program Manager 

Full-Time | Year-Round | Hybrid 

Support youth and young adults to succeed in health science and health-related careers!

Share your knowledge about community health, health science, and personal well-being with youth as they explore and prepare for college and careers! We are looking for a detail-oriented, motivated individual with a background in health care or education to help plan, coordinate, and deliver science enrichment and career exploration programs to youth in northern Vermont. The focus of this position is on providing high quality education enrichment to youth in medically underserved communities and from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine. With an emphasis on strengthening and diversifying the health care workforce in northern Vermont, our programming engages skilled professionals and expert faculty online and in-person to introduce youth to current issues and practices in health care and public health and highlight Vermont’s fastest growing health careers.

Position Overview

The Health Careers Program Manager is responsible for supporting health careers programming for Vermont youth in grades 5 through 12. This role includes lesson planning, activity coordination, program design, participant outreach, working with volunteers, partnership development, program delivery, and evaluation.

The goal of this position is to spark student interest in high‑need health science fields—particularly within underserved communities—through education and training delivered in clinical, community, and school environments throughout northern Vermont.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Northern VT AHEC team to develop strategies aligned with the organization’s mission.
  • Build professional networks and partnerships that create linkages to strengthen health careers programming at the community level.
  • Deliver instruction to groups on health science, wellness, and career pathways.
  • Plan and coordinate programs by identifying faculty, training mentors, and developing lesson plans and curriculum.
  • Track program information related to participation, hours, and learning objectives for reporting to funders.
  • Work in collaboration with staff throughout the Vermont AHEC network on shared objectives.
  • Support online engagement with students, parents, and educators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience

  • Strong skills in collaboration and teamwork.
  • Experience in program design and delivery.
  • Background in healthcare or education.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum).
  • Experience with program management, coordination, and implementation.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and develop programs with diverse community partners.
  • Ability to present to groups of varying sizes.
  • Analytical skills for managing budgets and projects.

Additional Position Requirements

  • Willingness to work on‑call during summer programs and occasionally outside regular hours.
  • Willingness to travel throughout northern Vermont.
  • Valid Vermont driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Access to personal transportation.
  • Ability to transport materials and equipment.
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal background check.
